The Role: Head of Engineering Operations

Sector: Industrial Machinery Supply

Location: National – Travel across the UK

Salary: £60,000 to £65,000pa + Car

I am working with a market leader in the supply of industrial and robotic equipment to help them find a dynamic and strategic Head of Engineering. This role is not just about technical knowledge; it is about leadership and excellence across technical operations.

About the role:

This is a multi-faceted role that will see the post-holder work across Training, Field Engineering, Distribution and Depots. The aim is to optimise engineering operations and drive efficiency and excellence in services across the board. With a collaborative and strategic approach, it offers the opportunity to drive continuous improvement and innovation.

The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with exceptional organisational and leadership skills. You will be able to demonstrate previous experience and success in efficient management of all engineering activities in a national business. Stakeholder engagement will be key to success in this role – both with colleagues and clients. Excellent people development skills and a sense of pride in helping people progress will also be key as you ensure that standards are high and communication is clear.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all engineering teams, including Field Engineering, Technical Services, Training, Hubs, and Warehouse operations.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of engineering training programmes, ensuring teams are equipped with the skills and knowledge to excel.
  • Define and monitor KPIs for field engineering teams, driving performance and consistency across all regions.
  • Implement reporting systems for real-time visibility into operational performance.
  • Oversee Hub operations, ensuring high standards for machine refurbishments, repairs, and preparation for dispatch.
  • Manage Warehouse functions to guarantee the accurate and efficient distribution of machines and parts.
  • Lead the Technical Services team to meet contractual obligations, including PA Testing and preventative planned maintenance.
  • Analyse operational data to identify efficiencies, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Work collaboratively with Procurement, Logistics, and Service Delivery to enhance processes and customer satisfaction.
  • Act as the primary liaison between engineering functions and other departments, supporting alignment with business objectives.
  • Guide and support Service Delivery Managers to meet KPIs, resolve challenges, and adopt best practices.
  • Implement effective inventory management strategies to optimise stock levels and availability.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Proven experience in a Senior Leadership role within Field Engineering or related operations.
  • Strong background in parts inventory management, supply chain optimisation, and procurement.
  • Demonstrated success in managing regional operations teams and achieving KPI targets.
  • Knowledge of field service operations, including familiarity with best practices and industry standards.
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to use data-driven insights to inform decision-making.
  • Effective leadership and communication skills to inspire and guide teams toward common goals.
  • Technical expertise in field engineering.
